In an active threat situation, emergency dispatchers are the hub of everything that occurs. Preplanning, preparedness, and training are critical. This course teaches attendees to better understand the dispatcher’s critical role during active shooter and threat situations. This course provides emergency dispatchers and call-takers with the information necessary to keep the continuity of operations going during a major incident or large-scale event. Topics and objectives of the course include; planned versus unplanned events; the importance of dispatch operational plans; what to expect during the event; protecting responders; maintaining composure; the importance of documentation; working with limited resources; managing radio traffic & protocol; managing resources, utilizing outside assistance; handling routine calls during the event; creating after-action reports.
